A year after receiving his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Toronto’s St. Michael’s College in 1966, Tony Comper began his career at the Bank of Montreal. He has held positions throughout the bank and played a leadership role in putting the bank on-line in the 1970s: a Canadian first. In 1990, he was appointed president, and became CEO and chairman in 1999.
He is honorary chair of Fountain of Hope, the bank’s employee-run charitable foun-dation; vice-chair of the C.D. Howe Institute; and a member of the North America Policy Committee of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives. He is former chair of U of T’s Governing Council and continues to chair the Campaign for the University of Toronto.
